Internet Content Filtering (Not Erate Eligible)

NewNet 66 provides centralized content filtering to our family of schools which meets and exceeds CIPA (HR 4577) requirements.

Our number one priority at NewNet 66 is to provide a "safe learning environment" for your students and staff.

NewNet 66 uses an R3000 Gigabit Enterprise UNIX server filtering solution from M86 Security providing each school district the ability to control filtering tailored to their specific requirements. The filtering servers are located at our Network Operations Center in Claremore, OK. District administrators may log into the filtering server from a workstation in their school district and turn off, turn on, add, or delete specific categories and urls giving the district total control and flexibility over what is filtered. Control of the filtering may be done by IP subnet or individual IP address. All access to the content filter is logged for security.

  • Since the content filter is located at our network operations center and looks for Natted IP addresses, it is not possible for districts to unblock specific user IPs.
  • The Child Pornography and General Pornography filters are always turned on. School districts do not have the ability to turn these two filters off.

Email Archiving (Not Erate Eligible)

To help K-12 schools comply with new Federal Mandates for email archiving, as well as the state's local records and retention laws, NewNet 66 has introduced a comprehensive package designed to meet the computing and compliance needs for students, faculty and staff email.

A number of important and substantive revisions to the FRCP (Federal Rules of Civil Procedure) went into effect on December 1, 2006.  These revisions are complex to review but in lay-person terminology they effectively say that K-12 schools must archive inbound and outbound school related email for a period of five years.

What the NewNet 66 email archiving system accomplishes.

  • Archives every email, inbound and outbound, to a disk array for storage and later retrieval if required.
  • The archiving process takes place "on the fly" and literally grabs the emails as they pass through our mail servers.
  • All email processed by NewNet 66 email servers is archived. This includes World Client web mail, smtp, and POP3.
  • As the emails are archived they are indexed so that retrieval is quick and accurate.
  • Spam, Viruses, and other network exploits are not archived.
  • Only one copy of an email and it's attachment(s) is archived even if the sending email user were to send that email to hundreds of recipients.
  • Key word search is possible within attachments like PDF, MS Word, MS Excel, and other document formats.
  • Email is archived for a period of five (5) years.
